EUR 3.8m in grants for Novo Mesto nursing hospital

Ljubljana – The Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EUR 3.8 million in EU grants for the Novo Mesto general hospital to set up a nursing hospital. As part of the project the hospital will also acquire 44 new beds for Covid-19 patients.

According to a press release from the government office, the general hospital’s defunct internal medicine department will be refurbished to provide for quality non-acute and palliative hospital treatment.

Once renovated, the building’s ground floor will feature communal areas such as premises for various therapies and workshops and a visitors’ area. The first and second floors will house the ward for non-acute hospital treatment and the third floor both non-acute and palliative care wards.

The release says the investment will provide better conditions for quality care and increase accessibility of heath services in the south-eastern region.

The project, valued at a total of EUR 6 million, will be implemented by the Health Ministry. EUR 3.8 million in grants will be provided by the European Regional Development Fund from the React-EU mechanism.

From that mechanism for post-pandemic recovery, a total of EUR 75.1 million has been allocated for Slovenian healthcare system this year, including EUR 20.1 million for nursing hospitals. As part of those 226 Covid-19 beds have been established.
