Skier Štuhec, snowboarder Košir chosen as Olympics flag bearers

Ljubljana – Alpine skier Ilka Štuhec and snowboarder Žan Košir will be Slovenia’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games on 4 February, the Slovenian Olympic Committee said on Monday.

Like last year at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo, the International Olympic Committee has decided that each country will have two flag-bearers in Beijing.

“I am very glad to have this honour. It’s great that two athletes can do it at the same time, so one doesn’t have to wait another four years,” said Štuhec, who welcomed this symbolic opportunity to show equality.

Štuhec competed at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, but missed the PyeongChang Games four years ago due to injury, while her colleague Žan Košir has already represented Slovenia at the Winter Olympics on three separate occasions and won three medals.
