Slovenia hosting National Day in Dubai

Dubai – Slovenia’s presentation at the Dubai Expo will culminate on Tuesday as the country marks its Culture Day with a special programme. The National Day at the Slovenian pavilion will feature Foreign Minister Anže Logar and Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek.

Events leading up to the National Day have been under way since the end of last week, as the SPIRIT agency and its partners have been presenting Slovenian culture and cuisine, and folk heritage.

But the peak of celebration will take place in the most important Expo venue, Al Wasl Plaza, today. Visitors will be greeted by the head of the Slovenian delegation, Minister Počivalšek, and Minister Logar will be at hand.

The cultural programme will feature the vocal group Jazzva, accordion virtuoso Marko Hatlak, opera singer Tajda Jovanović, folk dance group France Marolt and reciter Isaak Hrovatin, and will be broadcast via Expo’s official channels and the Slovenian Expo Facebook page.

Before the concert, a reception will be held for Slovenians living and working in the United Arab Emirates and representatives of Slovenian companies that are part of the business programme at the Slovenian pavilion.

In the evening, a business reception will be held for representatives of all participating countries at Expo.

The closing event of the National Day will be a business conference of the Slovenian Tourist Board on Wednesday, at which the macro region Mediterranean Slovenia will be presented.

On the margins of the National Day events, the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS), Tibor Šimonka, will meet his Dubai counterparts to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two chambers and to promote Slovenian companies in Dubai, the GZS said.

Počivalšek is expected to reveal the plans for the future of the Slovenian pavilion. Slovenian companies would like it to stay in Dubai and be included in the presentation of breakthrough business ideas from all over the world that will open there after Expo.

Expo started on 1 October last year and will conclude at the end of March. A record of 192 countries participate in the show.

The Slovenian pavilion, presenting the country as a Green Smart Experience, was visited by almost 400,000 people until the end of last year, in the first half of Expo. By the end of the show some 350 companies will have been presented.
