Paper happy sport coming to economy and tourism ministry

Koper – The incoming government has perhaps taken the right approach to sport by transferring it from the existing ministry of education, science and sport to the planned ministry of the economy, tourism and sport. “It should be clear in a year’s time whether this is a winning combination,” Primorske Novice says on Saturday.

It is not that sport is not compatible with education. But over the past two coronavirus years, no major synergies could be seen and it was no different under the previous ministers.

Sport has always been a kind of an appendage to the education ministry, whereas “the merging of business, tourism and sport has reshuffled the cards”.

A lot of what is written in the sports act is fine, but what is also needed is new approaches that will directly benefit the economy, tourism and sport.

The Tour of Italy, whose 19th stage passed briefly through Slovenia on Friday, is a good example of how the three industries can work in harmony.

The newspaper indicates under the headline Sport, Tourism and Economy that this is good promotion for cycling in the Soča Valley as a tourist destination, and the EUR 150,000 that has been invested to organise the Slovenian leg of the Giro does not seem too much money.
