Ljubljana and Sarajevo become twin towns

Sarajevo – Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković and Mayor of Sarajevo Benjamina Karić signed an agreement on the Slovenian and Bosnian capitals becoming twin towns as the pair met in Sarajevo on Friday, the Ljubljana municipality said in a release. The mayors believes this will enable the cities to share good practices and deepen cooperation.

The two cities plan to exchange information and experiences in a number of areas within the purview of city administrations, ranging from culture to EU funds.

The agreement also says that Ljubljana and Sarajevo will promote closer regional cooperation, a successful future, and peace and stability in the region and Europe.

Both mayors stressed that the twinning was an upgrade of the two cities’ long and successful cooperation in a number of areas.

Janković said this will further deepen the two cities’ relations and enhance their cooperation and the sharing of good practices.

Karić believes the agreement will enable cooperation at a higher level, including in green policies and smart cities, adding that Sarajevo “can learn a lot from Ljubljana”.
