Slovenian student wins gold medal at Informatics Olympiad

Ljubljana – Slovenian secondary school student Benjamin Bajd has won a gold medal at the 34th International Olympiad in Informatics in Indonesia in competition of 349 students from 88 countries. This is the first gold medal for Slovenia since the country has started participating in the annual competitive programming event.

The medal for Slovenia was announced on Tuesday by the Association for Technical Culture, which noted that the competition had taken place in Yogyakarta on the Indonesian island of Java between 7 and 15 August.

In addition to Bajd from the Kranj secondary school, Slovenia was also represented by Jakob Žorž (Škofja Loka), Matija Likar (Maribor) and Bor Brudar (Novo Mesto), with the team coached and mentored by Marko Poženel of the Ljubljana Faculty of Computer and Information Science.

Bajd has completed his medal tally after winning a bronze medal at his first International Olympiad in Informatics in 2019 in Baku, Azerbaijan, and a bronze medal in 2020 and a silver in 2021 (both competitions were held online and hosted by Singapore).
