Pahor congratulates new King Charles III

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor extended his congratulations on Sunday to the new King Charles III, who was formally proclaimed king of the UK and Commonwealth on Saturday. In his message on Twitter, Pahor wished him all the best in conducting his important mission.

Pahor expressed conviction that under the guidance of King Charles III the diverse and partner relations between the UK and Slovenia would continue.

Charles III was formally proclaimed king at a ceremony on Saturday. In his address, the 73-year-old new king said he would endeavour to serve with loyalty, respect and love.

Pahor also paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II this afternoon by signing the book of condolences at the UK Embassy. “We all feel a sense of emptiness at the loss of someone who, from the post-war period until today, embodied stability and confidence in this turbulent and changing world,” he said.

Although Queen Elizabeth II led the UK and Commonwealth, she belonged to everyone in the world in a way, and she will be missed, the president said.

UK Ambassador Tiffany Sadler also signed the book of condolences, saying that now was a time for mourning in the UK, Commonwealth and many other places in the world. She added it was wonderful to receive so many messages of support from people in Slovenia.
