Ceferin: Regional football league not ruled out

BELGRADE - UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said in Belgrade on Friday a regional football league was not ruled out despite the risks associated with organising one.

Ceferin's statement comes in the wake of increasingly frequent talk of such a competition, modelled on the football league of the former Yugoslavia.

"I am not ruling out the possibility of forming a regional league. However, organising such a league in our region or (the territory of) the former state is very risky at this time," said Ceferin, who comes from Slovenia.

Asked to comment on Serbia's results at the recent World Cup in Qatar, he responded:

"Serbia can always do better. We all learn from mistakes. The Eagles had many injured players. The EURO is near, I know you have a quality side and all possibilities to get a good result."
