Vendetta feared in Xanthi after murder, burning of houses

Greek authorities on Tuesday feared that the murder of a man in a village of Xanthi, northern Greece, could spark a vendetta between two families, after two houses belonging to the alleged perpetrator and his brother were set on fire on Monday night.

The fire service said the fires in the two houses were caused by arson but no suspects have been detained.

The killing took place in the early hours of Sunday in the village of Drosero, when four people - a 37-year old father with his two young sons and his son-in-law - went to the 46-year-old victim's house and shot him five times, following a dispute.

The victim was taken to the hospital in Xanthi where he died.

Following the murder, the 37-year-old subsequently uploaded a video on TikTok, in which he threatened un unnamed man, saying "if you harm me, if you harm my family and 40 years in I will kill you...
