Belh@rra: The “Nearchos” frigate launched – Dendias announces a fourth frigate, see sideo and photos
At the Naval Group shipyard in France, the “Nearchos” frigate was launched today, in the presence of the Greek Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias. This is the second of the three FDI HN frigates (Kimon, Nearchos, and Formion), commonly known as “Belharra,” which will join the Greek Navy’s fleet in the coming years.
During the event, the Minister of National Defense announced that Greece has begun the process to acquire a fourth frigate of the same type. He also revealed that Greece will proceed with the order of strategic “Scalp Naval” missiles.
“I am pleased to announce today Greece’s intention to begin negotiations to acquire another frigate, the fourth of the same type, which will join Kimon, Nearchos, and Formion, further strengthening our Navy,” Dendias said.

The “Nearchos” frigate has a displacement of 4,500 tons, a length of approximately 122 meters, a maximum speed of 27 knots, and a crew of 120. It incorporates advanced digital technologies, including the PSIM (Panoramic Sensor Intelligence Module), which consolidates almost all of the warship’s sensor systems, the advanced CAPTAS-4 anti-submarine warfare sonar, and the fully digital Sea Fire radar.
Meanwhile, the crew of the first frigate, “Kimon,” has begun intensive training to learn and become familiar with the new systems, as this ship is completely different from the frigates the Greek Navy personnel are accustomed to. The Navy’s goal is to push for the order of a fourth frigate in the “Kimon” class, which is expected to enhance the country’s naval strength.

At the same time, the crew of the first frigate “Kimon” has started intensive training to learn and familiarize themselves with the new systems, as this ship has nothing to do with what the Navy officials knew about frigates until now. The Navy staff’s goal is to push ahead with the order of a fourth frigate of the “Kimon” class, which is considered to add value to the country’s naval power.
