Borel: The EU recognises only the Republic of Cyprus as a subject of international law

The European Union rejects the repeated attempts by the Organization of Turkic States to legitimize the Turkish Cypriot breakaway entity, the self-proclaimed, internationally unrecognized, “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” (“TRNC”), through the granting of observer status to the Organization of Turkic States, including at the summit held yesterday, Wednesday 6 November in Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic), Joseph Borel, the EU High Representative Joseph Borel said in a written statement.

He says these attempts are regrettable and contradict the strong support of many members of the Organization for the principle of territorial integrity enshrined in the UN Charter.

The EU reiterates that it only recognizes the Republic of Cyprus as a subject of international law, by the relevant UN Security Council resolutions concludes Joseph Borel.
