Marty Supreme: The Timothée Chalamet movie becomes A24’s most expensive production
A24’s film “Marty Supreme”, starring Timothée Chalamet, has captured attention at the American Film Market (AFM) in Las Vegas.
Reports indicate a budget reaching $70 million, making it not only the priciest production at this year’s AFM but also in A24’s history.
The film is currently shooting in New York, chronicling the story of legendary ping-pong champion Marty Reisman, with Josh Safdie directing in his first solo effort since 2008.

The screenplay is co-written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, who also share production credits with Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas.
The cast of “Marty Supreme” is impressive, featuring Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow, returning after a five-year hiatus, along with rapper Tyler, The Creator in his cinematic debut, Fran Drescher, Penn Jillette, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Abel Ferrara, and Sandra Bernhard.
It is the most expensive project sold at this year’s AFM, alongside “The Smashing Machine”, starring Dwayne Johnson as MMA legend Mark Kerr, with Emily Blunt as his wife, Dawn Staples, and directed by Benny Safdie.
A24’s investment in these two productions reflects its ambitious plans. In April, it released “Civil War” by Alex Garland, with a budget of $50 million, making it the third most expensive film for the independent production company. According to Deadline, A24 is reportedly planning even bigger productions in the near future.
