Petkovic:80 years ago today, Serbs from north Kosovo-Metohija freed US airmen captured by Germans

BELGRADE - The head of the Serbian government Office for Kosovo-Metohija Petar Petkovic noted that, 80 years ago today, Serbs from the north of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metohija freed 11 US airmen, three British officers and other soldiers from German captivity in the vicinity of the Banjska village.

"At that time, in WWII, brave Serbs attacked a column of German occupiers to rescue captured Allied fighters," Petkovic wrote in a post on X.

He noted that this was another testimony to the "close historical bonds between the Serbian and American nations" and to the honor and the determination of Serbs in the north of Kosovo-Metohija to "fight for true values."
