Landslide hits school site in Crete; no immediate danger to students

A landslide occurred at a site in Iraklio, Crete, where two schools - the Unified Special Vocational High School (ENEEGYL) and the Special Education and Training School (EEEEK) - are located.

The incident occurred as the Region of Crete was conducting works related to a retaining wall meant to protect the school complex. The site was immediately assessed by local officials, including the deputy regional governor of Iraklio, Nikos Syrigonakis, and the district engineers.

Syrigonakis confirmed that the landslide occurred in a location not posing immediate danger to the schools. However, water leakage was identified as the likely cause, and further inspections by engineers and geologists were planned.
