Sheep and goats put on lockdown
The Rural Development Ministry has announced new measures to combat the spread of sheep pox, with confirmed cases in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly, as well as goat plague in Western Greece.
Effective through November 15, the ministry is enforcing strict movement controls on sheep and goats. These include bans on movement for fattening and breeding, except under strict veterinary supervision for animals coming from summer pastures.
Slaughterhouses are permitted to operate only within disease-free regions, with biosecurity protocols in place, including vehicle disinfection and stringent hygiene standards.
Authorities will reassess the situation on November 15 to determine further actions.
