Launch of a Chinese School of Classical Studies in Athens

Athens now has its own Chinese School of Classical Studies, following its inauguration on Thursday in a ceremony attended by Chinese and Greek officials, including Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), who is visiting Greece.

The new institution follows the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Academy of Athens and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

The Chinese School of Classical Studies in Athens is the first classical studies research institute established in Greece by an Asian country, said Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, speaking at an event held at the School's premises.

The aim of its establishment is to promote academic research and exchanges on classical civilizations between China and Greece as well as globally.
