Greek mission to Antarctica

Two Greek scientists from the Technical University of Crete are set to embark on a groundbreaking research mission to Antarctica. This marks the first time Greek researchers will participate in such an expedition.

The mission will focus on studying the effects of extreme weather and isolation on the physical and mental health of individuals in harsh conditions.

The Hellenic Polar Zones Society, led by Simeon Konstantinidis, aims to raise awareness and encourage government support for Greek scientific endeavors in Antarctica. Konstantinidis, a retired vice admiral, stressed that many talented Greek researchers seek opportunities abroad due to limited resources at home.

The mission, sponsored by the Laskaridis Shipping Company, is expected to take place during Antarctica's summer (October to February), though the exact date has not been confirmed.
