UK PM Starmer to visit Cyprus during regional tour

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will visit Cyprus on Tuesday, marking the first visit by a UK prime minister to the island since 1971.

The trip is part of Starmer's regional tour, which includes stops in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Starmer is set to meet with President Nikos Christodoulides for private talks and expanded discussions focusing on defense, energy, trade and Cyprus reunification efforts. "This meeting underscores the excellent relations between Cyprus and the United Kingdom," Christodoulides' office said.

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar criticized the visit, calling for "equal footing" treatment of both communities by the UK.
