Farewell to Nikos Sarganis: Honoring the phantom of Greek football

Nikos Sarganis, the legendary “Fandom” of Greek football fields, breathed his last on Sunday morning in a private hospital in Athens, where he was being treated after a rapid deterioration of his health.

Today, Tuesday, December 10, several celebrities, starting with the veteran footballers who played either with or against him, are at Papagos Cemetery to say their last goodbyes.

Nikos Sarganis was born on January 13, 1954, and excelled during the 1980s, playing mainly for Olympiacos and Panathinaikos and making 58 appearances for the Greek national team.

Relatives, friends, and fans of the great goalkeeper started arriving early. His very good friend, Nikos Vamvakoulas was also at Papagos Cemetery from very early on.
