Greece launches center for infectious disease detection
A groundbreaking Center of Excellence for Innovative Infectious Disease Diagnostics (DxHub) will open on January 1, at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) for the benefit of public health and pandemic readiness across Europe.
DxHub, led by Greece's Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB-FORTH) and Portugal's NOVA University Lisbon, has secured €4.7 million in competitive EU funding.
"DxHub aims to pioneer advanced diagnostic tools, foster business opportunities, and enhance regional competitiveness and sustainability," said Dr Electra Gizeli, deputy director of IMBB-FORTH and biology professor at the University of Crete. She highlighted the critical need for rapid, precise diagnostics in controlling emerging diseases amplified by climate change, urbanization and mobility.
