Head of Armed Forces health service, two hospital managers axed
The leadership of the Greek Armed Forces Health Service and the managers of two military hospitals were removed from their positions on Tuesday, following a meeting of the Council of Chiefs of General Staff (SAGE) to discuss an overhaul of the military's health facilities.
The decisions followed a request by Defense Minister Nikos Dendias to the head of the Greek Armed Forces for a full review of the management of military hospitals, after two patients revealed they had received months-long delayed cancer diagnosis at the 401 Military Hospital in Thessaloniki.
The Major General Georgios Gouvas, Commander of the Military School of Combat Support Officers, and Charalambos Christofyllakis, head of the Military Health Committee of the General Staff, are stepping down, SAGE said in a press release.
