Michael Arghyrou replaces Patelis as head of PM’s economic affairs office
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday appointed Michael Arghyrou as the head of his economic affairs office, following the resignation of his chief economic advisor Alexis Patelis the day before.
As a close associate of Mitsotakis since 2016, he was until now the head of the Council of Economic Experts. In this capacity, he represented Greece in the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC), the Eurogroup Working Group (EWG) and the Governing Council of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).
Arghyrou was born in Nicosia in 1972. He graduated from the Department of Economics of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), and holds a Master's and PhD degree in Economics from the University of London (Queen Mary).
Since July 2019 he is Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics of the University of Piraeus.
