Inquiry ordered into torture, rape of 16-year-old at migrant camp

The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered a preliminary investigation into allegations by a 16-year-old Egyptian boy who said he was tortured and raped by a group of fellow inmates at a migrant camp in Malakasa, north of Athens.

The probe will seek to ascertain whether there is a case of criminal negligence to be brought against the administrators of the state-run facility where the incident took place earlier this week.

Four Egyptian nationals have been arrested in connection with the attack, which is said to have taken place in a container home reserved for minors but lacking protection from intruders and trespassers.

The 16-year-old boy, also an Egyptian national, said he was attacked by a group of around seven men, who tied him up, burned and beat him, and raped him over the course of several hours.
