Kasselakis slams austerity in 2025 state budget
Former SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis, founder of the newly formed Movement for Democracy, has criticized the government's 2025 budget as excessively austere.
"This week the Greek parliament will pass its annual budget, another budget the government will miss at the expense of the country's social fabric," he wrote on platform X, in an English-language text.
The parliamentary debate on the budget got underway on Wednesday.
Kasselakis, who is not an MP, highlighted the financial pressures on households caused by persistent inflation, soaring food prices, and high energy costs. "This suffocation of the middle and lower classes has created an unprecedented crisis of daily survival," he added, arguing that government policies intentionally maintain "excessive fiscal austerity."
