BELGRADE - Red Star Belgrade have failed to reach the UEFA Europa League group stage after drawing 1-1 with Italian side Sassuolo at home in the second leg of the play-offs on Thursday.

Troicki beats Verdasco to advance to Winston-Salem semis

WINSTON-SALEM - Serbia's Viktor Troicki is through to the semi-finals of the ATP tennis tournament in Winston-Salem, United States, after beating Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 Friday.

In a bid to reach the final, Troicki will face another Spaniard, Roberto Bautista Agut, who defeated Lu Yen-hsun of Chinese Taipei 6-3, 6-2.

Dacic: Major differences remain between Belgrade, Pristina

NEW YORK - Thursday's UN SC meeting on Kosovo demonstrated that "major differences" remain between the positions of the Belgrade and Pristina delegations, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said after the meeting.

Spanovic wins in Lausanne for overall triumph

LAUSANNE - The best Serbian track-and-field athlete Ivana Spanovic won the meeting of the Diamond League in Lausanne on Thursday in the long jump event. She jumped 6.83 meters and secured the triumph in the overall standings.

The second place was claimed by Briton Ugen Lorraine (6.71 m) and the third by Russian Darya Klishina (6.5).

Serbian Paralympic team presented ceremonially

BELGRADE - The Serbian Paralympic team that will compete at the Rio Paralympic Games was ceremonially presented on Friday at the National Assembly.

Speaker Maja Gojkovic told the athletes that Serbia is proud of them.

Gojkovic said that the athletes, with their magnificent enthusiasm, bravery and persistence, are the best ambassadors of Serbia.

Regional Children's Philharmonic to perform in Belgrade

BELGRADE - After successful performances in Ljubljana and Zagreb, the Regional Children's Philharmonic Orchestra will play a concert on Friday evening at Belgrade's Tasmajdan Stadium under the baton of Bojan Sudjic.

Enerjisa to make $1.5-bln investment in power distribution: CEO

Turkey's Enerjisa, a joint venture between Sabancı Holding and Germany's E.ON, plans to invest 4.5 billion Turkish Liras ($1.5 billion) in power distribution between 2016 and 2020, said the company chief Kıvanç Zaimler. 

He also noted that the company would close this year with a total of 2 billion liras ($677 million) of investment in several segments, including power distribution. 

Energy company set to launch 500 bird rest platforms in Istanbul

Bedaş, which offers power distribution services to over 4.7 million subscribers in the European side of Istanbul, has prepared some 500 functional bird rest platforms in a bid to protect birds and minimize power cuts resulting from bird collisions during their migration seasons. 

Iraq plans to sell oil through Iran if talks with Kurds fail

Iraq's government would consider selling crude through Iran should talks with the autonomous Kurdish region on an oil revenue-sharing agreement fail, a senior oil ministry official in Baghdad told Reuters.
