Turkey's state of emergency decrees are unlawful: Turkish Bar Association head

Turkey's state of emergency decrees are unlawful, Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TTB) head Metin Feyzioğlu has said, as the government continues to impose sweeping post-coup attempt measures.

"What's being done is unlawful and neglectful," Feyzioğlu told journalists on Oct. 30, saying parliament is being "ignored with the state of emergency decrees."

Man taking care of blind pigeon in Turkey's Amasya

A retired worker man has been scrupulously looking after a pigeon that was born blind in the Black Sea province of Amasya. 

Halil Kuru, who lives in Amasya's Taşova district, carries the blind pigeon named "Pamuk" (Cotton) everywhere he goes. He expressed his affection for pigeons and said that he loved keeping pigeons from a young age.

Greek retail sales fall 2.6 pct in August, led by fuels, lubricants

Greek retail sales by volume declined by 2.6 percent in August compared to the same month a year ago after a downwardly revised 9.5 percent increase in July, statistics service ELSTAT said on Monday.

Retail sales were led lower by fuels, lubricants, foods, beverages and household appliances, the data showed.

Retailers launched seasonal discounts in July up to end August.

Serbia Awaits Investigation Into Weapons Stash

Dragan Mijovic, deputy chief of the Serbian police's National Crime Centre, said the police on Monday would receive the results of DNA analysis of the arms stash discovered near Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic's family home but the results will not be made public.

Weather warning issued with tropical storm forecast to skim Crete

The National Meteorological Service (EMY) on Monday issued an announcement warning that the weather will significantly worsen during the course of the day through Tuesday with heavy rain and storms across much of the country.

The Peloponnese and the southwestern and central mainland are expected to be particularly badly affected as will Crete and the islands of the southern Cyclades.

Lavrov visit to probe trade, investment, energy, ministry says

A day before Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is due to hold talks with government officials in Athens, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement, saying that trade, investment and energy would top the agenda and that Athens and Moscow see eye-to-eye on many issues.

Anarchists pelt Golden Dawn supporters with stones, wooden beams near courtroom

Self-styled anarchists on Monday clashed with supporters of the neonazi Golden Dawn near the Athens Appeals Court where the trial of members of GD is underway.

Around 20 people threw stones and beams of wood at the GD supporters as they were arriving at the court house.

A riot police unit intervened and two people were arrested.
