Two Passenger Coaches Caught on Fire on a Train from Sofia to Burgas in Konyovo

Two coaches on a fast passenger train caught on fire at Konyovo station between Nova Zagora and Yambol.
 
The report of the incident was filed around 20.02. Two fire-fighting teams arrived on the scene and began extinguish the fire. Other teams of the fire brigade, police, ambulances and BDZ staff are traveling to the scene.

Six youths charged over racist attack in Oropos

Six men, aged between 18 and 23, were arrested on Friday in Oropos, north of Athens, on charges of violating the anti-racism law, arson, issuing threats, verbal assault and disturbing the public peace.

According to police, the suspects, all Greeks, had gathered outside the home of an Indian national in Oropos early on Thursday morning, throwing flares and setting off firecrackers.

SYRIZA offices targeted in Thessaloniki

A group of unknown assailants vandalized the facade of an office branch of ruling SYRIZA in the region of Xirokrini in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, late Thursday night. 

According to local news reports, the group smashed the main window of the office using pieces of marble.

In a statement, SYRIZA condemned the incident as an act of fascism. 

Probe launched into Hymettus animal poisonings

An Athens prosecutor has ordered a preliminary investigation into the recent spate of poisonings of stray animals, mostly dogs, as well as foxes, in the region of Hymettus in eastern Attica.

More road accidents, fewer deaths

There were more road accidents in January of this year, according to figures released by the Traffic Police on Friday, but the rate of fatalities was lower than that in the same period of 2017.

There were 757 road accidents in January, an increase of 18.8 percent from the same month in 2017, the figures showed.
