Bucharest, June 29 /Agerpres/ - Prime Minister Viorica Dancila was elected, on Saturday, chair of the Social Democrat Party (PSD), Eugen Teodorovici was elected executive chair and Mihai Fifor was elected secretary general. Viorica Dancila garnered 2828 votes, Liviu Plesoianu - 715 votes, Serban Nicolae 375 votes and Ecaterina Andronescu - 50 votes. 22 votes were annulled.

Violence at Moria as migrant arrivals on Lesvos spike

Police on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos said on Saturday that 13 asylum seekers, aged between 14 and 32, had been arrested at the Moria refugee camp on charges of causing grievous bodily harm.

Animal abuser in Volos gets 12 months

A 55-year-old man has been handed a 12-month prison sentence and fined 5,000 euros by a court in Volos, central Greece, for abusing a donkey, it was reported on Saturday.

The court heard that he repeatedly kicked the donkey in the head after it fell out of back of his pickup truck while he was driving on a rural road last week.

Cyprus president to undergo surgery for thighbone fracture

Cyprus' government spokesman says President Nicos Anastasiades has suffered a fracture of his femur, or thighbone, on this right leg and will undergo surgery.

Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said in a written statement Saturday that there is no risk to the president's overall health.
