Restaurants and cafes reopen, travel restrictions lifted

Restaurants, cafes and parks opened on June 1 while the last inter-city travel curbs have been removed as Turkey enters the phase of "new normal" amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The government has been gradually rolling back the restrictions for some time initially imposed to slow the spread of COVID-19, which has infected more than 160,000 and killed over 4,500 people in the country.

Turkey continues to ease virus restrictions

Turkish authorities on May 30 sent official orders on recent decisions to ease restrictions related to the novel coronavirus as the country made advances in its fight against the pandemic.

The Interior Ministry ordered local officials to allow restaurants, cafes, patisseries, coffee shops, and similar venues to open daily until 10.00 p.m. local time, as of June 1.

Turkish official regrets act of hate on minority church

A Turkish official late on May 30 said Turkey would do all it can to prevent the breaking of brotherhood and peace between Turks and members of minority communities after a recent hate attack on an Armenian church in Istanbul.

Greece clarifies policy, to allow tourists from all nations

Greek officials said Saturday that the country will not limit arriving airline passengers next month to people coming from 29 countries but that travelers who departed from places that aren't on the initial list will be subject to mandatory testing for the coronavirus upon arrival and a quarantine period of one or two weeks.

Schools, nurseries given scrub down ahead of Monday opening

They add that additional EU funds have been provided for that purpose, and Brussels calls on the United States to reconsider the decision to cut ties and finance the World Health Organization.
