Education Minister Monica Anisie asks Prime Minister Ludovic Orban to sack the president of the National Centralized Procurement Office (ONAC), Cornelia Nagy, after learning about the "disappointing" result of the tender for the purchase of internet-connected tablets for students.

Individuals, businesses rapped for defying Covid measures

The Hellenic Police (ELAS) on Monday said that it conducted more than 58,240 inspections nationwide on Sunday as part of efforts to check compliance with restrictions imposed by the authorities in an attempt to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Officers recorded 328 instances of individuals not wearing face masks or not observing physical distancing in public places.

Permanent licenses for online gambling seen soon

The granting of permanent licenses for online gambling is expected soon.

The Hellenic Gaming Commission published Friday a document specifying the submission of a letter of guarantee after the license is granted.

The letter has to cover €500,000 and have an expiration date eight years from the awarding of the license.

Nearly 2,000 cannabis trees uprooted on farm in Fthiotida

Anti-narcotics officers have discovered an illegal plantation with almost 2,000 cannabis trees in a remote area near Tragana in Fthiotida, central Greece, the Greek Police (ELAS) said on Monday.
The operation, which took place early Friday morning, was assisted by a helicopter and sniffer dogs.

Pope Francis expresses concern over East Med tension  

Following his comments during prayers on Sunday, Pope Francis on Monday reiterated his concern over tensions in the East Med. 

"I appeal for constructive dialogue and respect for international law to resolve the conflicts that threaten the peace of the peoples of that region," he said in a tweet.

Authorities announce 183 new coronavirus cases, four deaths

Greek health authorities on Monday announced 183 new coronavirus cases and four new related fatalities. 

Of the new cases, 10 were detected at the country's border entry points.

The total number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 10,317 with 266 deaths.

There are 36 patients on ventilators, while 153 have been discharged from intensive care units.
