C5 meeting discussing Slovenia’s EU presidency

Brdo pri Kranju – Foreign Minister Anže Logar will host a meeting of Central 5 foreign ministers in Brdo pri Kranju on Monday. Logar and his counterparts from Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia will talk about Slovenia’s EU Council presidency priorities and efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

Loss of income in fitness industry in 2020 estimated at 75%

Ljubljana – The fitness industry has been severely affected by coronavirus restrictions with last year’s loss of income estimated at 75%, said the fitness, recreation and regeneration branch of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) on Sunday, warning about a decline in physical fitness.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: Lampič and Urevc third in team event in Oberstdorf

Oberstdorf – Cross-country skiers Anamarija Lampič and Eva Urevc won bronze in the women’s team event at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, on Sunday. The pair fell short of gold by 3.46 seconds. Sweden’s Maja Dahlqvist and Jonna Sundling won the race.

Second place went to Switzerland’s Nadine Fähndrich and Laurien van der Graaff.

Fenerbahçe beats Trabzonspor to put troubles on hold

Fenerbahçe beat Trabzonspor 1-0 in a Turkish Süper Lig match on Feb. 28 to keep its title hopes alive, easing the pressure on coach Erol Bulut.

The visiting side's Greek midfielder Dimitris Pelkas scored the winner in the 76th minute when his long-range shot on a counterattack beat Trabzonspor goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır.

Turkey condemns use of force on civilians in Myanmar

Turkey on Feb. 28 condemned the Myanmar military junta's disproportionate use of force on peaceful protesters causing the loss of many civilian lives. 

"We observe with deep concern that the stability in Myanmar is deteriorating after the coup d'etat on 1 February 2021," the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

Slovenian olive oil declared best in northern hemisphere

Paris – Slovenian olive oil Vanja produced by Koper-based olive grower Vanja Dujc has won the prestigious Olio Nuovo award for the best olive oil in the northern hemisphere in 2021, the contest’s organisers announced.
