QR codes to be placed on cut-down trees

In a bid to prevent illegal tree-cutting, QR codes will be placed on the roots and logs of trees that have been cut down for natural reasons, as the codes will provide information about when, by whom and why the tree was chopped.

Noting that previously the cut-down trees were stamped, General Director of Forestry (OGM) Bekir Karacabey stated they will now be digitally protected.

Karaivaz murder suspects given deadline to testify

The two men arrested on Friday on suspicion of murdering journalist George Karaivaz two years ago outside his house have been given until Wednesday to testify before an investigating magistrate.

The suspects, who are brothers aged 40 and 48, were transported under strict security to the Evelpidon courts complex shortly before noon on Saturday.
