IMF urges European central banks to kill inflation ‘beast’ with rate hikes

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on April 28 urged European central banks to "kill the beast" of inflation by pursuing interest rate hikes.

"You need to go and kill that beast" the IMF's European department director Alfred Kammer told reporters in Stockholm.

Bank of Japan to maintain, review easing measures

The Bank of Japan announced a review of its longstanding monetary easing measures on April 28 but said it would maintain them for the time being in the first policy decision under new governor Kazuo Ueda.

Exports hit $24 billion in March

Türkiye's exports increased by 4.4 percent in March from a year ago to 23.6 billion, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) have shown.

Imports rose 3.4 percent on an annual basis to $31.9 billion. Consequently, the country's foreign trade deficit amounted to $8.3 billion, marking a limited 0.9 percent increase compared with March last year.

Zeugma stele to be returned to Türkiye

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced yesterday on his social media account that an ancient stele, stolen from the ancient city of Zeugma in Gaziantep, will return to the country from Italy. The second-century stele, which contains important scientific information, will be delivered to the Turkish Embassy in Rome, he said.

Canik, one of the world's leading arms manufacturers, has announced that it has completed the acquisition of the well-established British defense company AEI Systems.

For the first time, a Turkish company bought a defense firm in the U.K., said Zafer Aral, the board chair of Samsun Yurt Savunma, the owner of Canik.

More than 6 mln tourists visit Türkiye in January-March

Around 6.2 million foreign tourists visited Türkiye in the January-March period, up from 4.9 million foreign arrivals in the first quarter of 2022, the Culture and Tourism Ministry has announced.

In March alone, Türkiye welcomed 2.34 million foreign visitors, which marked a 12.3 percent increase from a year ago.

Baykar, Azerbaijan sign goodwill protocol

Turkish defense company Baykar Technology and Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry have signed a goodwill protocol for the joint production of unmanned aerial vehicle systems.

Baykar General Manager Haluk Bayraktar and Azerbaijan Deputy Defense Minister Agil Gurbanov on April 27 attended the ceremony and signed the protocol for the production of unmanned aerial vehicle systems.
