Man convicted for beating tax inspector gets suspended sentence
An owner of a cafeteria in the northern city of Alexandroupoli was handed a 30-month suspended jail sentence on Friday for assaulting a tax inspector earlier this week.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when officials of the Independent Public Revenue Authority found that the proprietor had not issued receipts for services rendered, among other violations.
Replica of Winged Victory graces Alexandroupoli
A marble copy of the Winged Victory of Samothrace, also called the Nike of Samothrace, the original of which is housed at the Louvre Museum in Paris, went on temporary display on a coastal avenue in the northern port city of Alexandroupoli on Thursday.

Twenty nine migrants rescued in northern Aegean
Greece's coast guard on Thursday found and rescued 29 migrants from a boat drifting in the sea area between the northern Aegean Sea island of Samothrace and the town of Alexandroupoli.
Authorities were alerted after one of the migrants made a phone call to the European single emergency number.

Greece's coast guard launched a search and rescue operation on Thursday to find a boat with migrants stranded in the sea area between the northern Aegean Sea island of Samothrace (or Samothraki) and the town of Alexandroupoli.
Migrant, refugee arrivals spike in Evros
Despite plummeting temperatures, arrivals of migrants from Turkey through the Evros border region in northeastern Greece are at a high level for the time of the year, as smugglers are reportedly constantly finding new entry routes.
Some 870 migrants were arrested for illegally entering the country in December 2018. The number of arrests in December 2017 was 502.

Greek natural gas company Gastrade on Tuesday launched a market test for a liquified natural gas terminal it is developing in northern Greece.
Companies interested in seeking services and capacity in the terminal must submit non-binding expressions of interest within 45 days, it said.
