The number of fallow deer, whose natural population continued only in the resort town of Antalya and remained at only seven about half a century ago, reached 500 after a protection project was launched.

"The number of visitors and tourism revenue in Turkey decreased during the first quarter because of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, officials statistics showed on April 30. 

The number of visitors declined 67.83% to 718,097 in March, compared to a year ago, according to Turkey's Culture and Tourism Ministry.

Monthly residential property sales up 51 pct in Feb

Residential property sales in Turkey continue its upward trend, jumping 51.4 percent in February, compared to the same month last year, the country's statistical authority announced on March 16.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) said in a statement that some 118,750 houses changed hands last month, up from almost 96,000 in the month a year earlier.

Hotel occupancy rate up in January

The hotel occupancy rate across Turkey reached 61.9 percent in January, up 6.4 percent from the same month last year, a hotel association said.

According to the Destination Performance Report prepared by the data company STR for the Turkish Hotel Association (TÜROB), the average hotel room price also soared to 68 euros (nearly $73.7) with an annual increase of 8.9 percent.

Turkey nabs nearly 2,200 irregular migrants last week

A total of 2,161 irregular migrants were held across Turkey over the past week, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency from security sources.

As many as 1,320 migrants were held in multiple operations carried out by gendarmerie forces in the northwestern Edirne, Kırklareli and Tekirdağ provinces, bordering Greece and Bulgaria.
