Six injured outside Turkish Embassy in Belgium

Six people were injured in front of the Turkish Embassy in Brussels during violent clashes between pro and anti-Erdogan supporters. The incident comes a day after three Kurdish people were stabbed by pro-Erdigan supporters in Brussels during the voting procedures of the referendum, which will decide whether Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will gain more executive power.

Terror in Antwerp: Man prevented from driving vehicle full of weapons into mall (photos-video)

A shotgun and several bladed weapons have been found in the car of a man who tried to drive at high speed through a busy shopping street in Antwerp, forcing pedestrians to jump out of the way.
The federal prosecutor’s office said the car was intercepted at the port docks and a Frenchman living in France was arrested.

Belgian jihadist jailed for murder in Syria

A Belgian court on Feb. 13 sentenced a jihadist to 28 years in jail for committing murder in Syria, the Belga news agency said, adding that it was the country's first such conviction.

The 24-year-old man, named Hakim Elouassaki, was a member of Sharia4Belgium, a radical Islamist group based in the northern city of Antwerp.

Offenbach opera at Zorlu

The Zorlu PSM screenings of Royal Opera House productions continue with "Les Contes D'Hoffman" (The Tales of Hoffman), a well-regarded opera by Jacques Offenbach. 

The opera will be at Zorlu PSM on Dec. 29.

EMST opens temporary display halls to public

The museum, in the location of the former FIX brewery on Syngrou Avenue, opened its temporary display halls to the public Monday following 12 years of construction marred by legal and financial issues. EMST was founded in 2000 and held temporary exhibitions at the Athens Conservatory up to 2015.

The display is billed as a visual dialogue between works from the EMST as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (M HKA). The exhibition runs through January 29, 2017.

UNESCO names Athens World Book Capital for 2018

The city of Athens has been announced from UNESCO as the World Book Capital for 2018. The proposed program includes meetings with writers, translators and illustrators, concerts, thematic exhibitions, poetry readings and workshops for publishing professionals. The aim of the program is to make books accessible to the city’s entire population, including migrants and refugees.

Montenegro Extradites Drugs Trafficking Suspect to Belgium

After eight months in detention in Montenegro, Serge Muller was handed over to the Belgian police after the Montenegrin Justice Ministry approved the extradition, his lawyers told BIRN on Monday.

Muller was extradited early in November under tight security measures and handed over to Belgian police officers at the airport in the capital Podgorica.
