Film director Nikos Panayotopoulos dies

Greek film director Nikos Panayotopoulos died on Monday at the age of 74 of heart attack.

Panayotopoulos was born on the island of Lesvos in 1941 and studied cinema in Athens and Paris where he lived from 1960 to 1973.

He was awarded in international film festivals and some of his well-known films include “A Night to Remember,” “Delivery” and “Athens-Istanbul.”

Schinas: European Commission evaluates Greece’s proposal on social security reforms

Greece’s proposal on social security reforms which was received by the European Commission last week is under evaluation, EC spokesman Margaritis Schinas said on Monday.

“The evaluation of the proposal is underway. The institutions will further discuss the issue during their visit to Athens later in the month,” he added.

Anti-authoritarian organization causes damages to polling station

Members of anti-authoritarian organization Rubicon entered the polling station of New Democracy at Philadelphia area, Athens on Sunday causing damages.

About 15 persons wearing black hoods and helmets entered the room, threw red paint on the floor and walls writing anti-authoritarian slogans, smashed the ballot boxes and took down a banner.

American-Jewish and Greek-American organisations send mixed delegation to Israel, Cyprus and Greece

A 12-member mixed delegation is scheduled to convene in Jerusalem, Nicosia, Cyprus and Athens from January 10 to 18.

The delegation will convene in Jerusalem, from Jan. 10 to 13, then continue to Nicosia, Cyprus, Jan. 13 to 14, and make its final stop in Athens, Greece, Jan. 14 to 18.

Reuters: The evaluation of the Greek program starts on Jan 18

A senior official said that the broad outline of the draft law on social security reform was accepted by European creditors stressing that the evaluation of the Greek program would start on January 18th.

“The first review mission is tentatively to start in the week beginning on Jan 18th. In practice, it might probably be a bit later,” one senior official said, according to Reuters.
