Two ships carrying reprocessed nuclear fuel destined for Japan set sail on Sept. 17 from northern France, despite criticism from environmental campaigners.

The fuel was due to leave the northern French port city of Cherbourg earlier this month but was delayed by the breakdown of loading equipment.

Meet Tom Goron. The young sailor leaves from the British island of White and reaches Cherbourg, France, with a one-man boat for 14 hours and 20 minutes.

His father, who documents Tom's voyage, sails behind him. The boy boarded a boat for the first time when he was just 8. From then until now he has numerous appearances in different regattas.

Ceremonies in memory of Commodore Ion Staiculescu, who died on Saturday in France, will be held on Monday morning in all the military units countrywide, informs the National Defence Ministry (MApN).
