Saint Photios the Great was one of the Ecumenical Patriarchs of Constantinople in the middle of the 9th century, and his feast day is celebrated on February 6th. Together with other great spiritual leaders of the Church, he demonstrates through his writings and teachings that knowledge can be a powerful instrument for proclaiming and expressing the faith of the Church.
Russia’s attempts to split the Orthodox Church in Africa
In 2019 the Greek Orthodox Patriarchs of Constantinople and Alexandria recognised the independence of the newly formed Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Bulgaria was the top destination for Greeks in 2018, according to data released by the Bank of Greece, as there were 2.37 million trips recorded, protothema.grreports.
Turkey followed with 967,000 trips, while from European Union countries Germany had the lion's share with 499,000 trips, followed by Italy with 405,000 trips.
