Ancient illuminated street to be unearthed

Kurtuluş Street (Herod Caddesi) in Antakya in the southern Turkish province of Hatay, a kind of shopping center for the rich in the ancient era known as the "world's first illuminated" street, is set to  come back to life nine-meters underground. The first traces of human settlement in Antakya date back to the Paleolithic Age.

Turkey to hire 4,200 Turkish teachers for Syrian students

A group of Syrian students are seen at an edecation center in the Reyhanlı distrrict of the southern province of Hatay. 

The Education Ministry plans to temporarily employ 4,200 teachers for Syrian students in Turkey to teach the Turkish language and integrate them into the education system.

Mosaic Road project opens exhibit in Switzerland

The first international step of the Mosaic Road project, initiated by the ONE Association, which has been formed to develop national and international projects promoting Anatolian heritage, was taken in Swiss village of Gstaad. An exhibition, featuring mosaic works by jewelry artist Sevan B?çakç?, opened in the village as part of the project. 

200 Syrian migrants, Turkish captain stopped off Marmaris

Some 200 Syrian migrants and a Turkish captain were intercepted by Turkish Coast Guard teams as they attempted to cross to the Greek island of Rhodes from the touristic Turkish town of Marmaris late on Dec. 24.

A wooden gullet was carrying the group, mostly women and children, "for 4,000 dollars per person," according to local reports.

Turkey's Culture Ministry denies claims of botched restorations of ancient mosaics

The Culture and Tourism Ministry has refuted claims that the restoration of ancient mosaics in the southern city of Hatay has seriously damaged the works, saying the photos published in the press were taken during the initial phase of the restoration. 

Arrest warrants issued for 34 soldiers involved in M?T trucks case

Arrest warrants were issued for 33 soldiers and one officer involved in the stopping of Turkish National Intelligence Agency (M?T) trucks in Turkey?s southeastern provinces of Adana and Hatay in January 2014, within a probe into the state-officials who conducted the ?Selam-Tevhid? investigation, which was put away with a nonsuit decision in 2014.
