An architect-engineer was sentenced to 14 years in prison by a three-member court of criminal appeal in Thessaloniki, which found him guilty of being a protagonist in a scam involving house loans through the former Agricultural Bank.

Fifty-eight passengers on a train travelling from the northern port city of Thessaloniki to Larissa, central Greece, were stranded on Wednesday after the train broke down, operator Hellenic Train said in a press release.

They were illegally transporting foreigners outside of Greece

Police on Wednesday detained a woman in connection with the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl in Thessaloniki last week.

The woman is believed to be an acquaintance of the child's family and may in the past have lived in the same neighborhood as her.

Officers found her on the beach of the town of Katerini and led her to Thessaloniki's Security Division.

Two people were arrested on Tuesday in the northern Greek city of Katerini over a scam involving phoning parents and telling them that their sons or daughters had caused a road accident that resulted in the death of a child.

The caller would then ask for money to ensure that their relatives were cleared of wrongdoing.
