The Military Operation in Syria Forced 300,000 People to Displace

Turkey's military operation against Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria forced 300,000 people to displace in eight days. This was reported today by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, quoted by the AFP.

"More than 300,000 civilians have been displaced since the start of the offensive," on October 9, the NGO director Rami Abdel Rahman said.

Jailed HDP co-chair Demirtaş slams Erdoğan over 'terrorist' claims

Selahattin Demirtaş, the jailed co-leader of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), has penned a letter to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the latter accused him of being a "terrorist." 

In the letter publicized by his lawyers on June 10, Demirtaş stated that with his comments, Erdoğan had "proven his influence" over the case the HDP is being tried in.

Speaking at a meeting in Hamburg at the end of the G-20 summit on July 8, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called Selahattin Demirtaş, the jailed co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), a "terrorist."

"We don't have the authority to release terrorists from jail," Erdoğan said in a press conference, upon a reporter's question regarding "Demirtaş and Kurdish lawmakers."

HDP spokesperson taken into custody one day after three colleagues detained, released

Turkey's opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) spokesperson and Kars deputy Ayhan Bilgen was detained early on Jan. 29 at Ankara Esenboğa Airport as he was set to fly to Istanbul. 

Bilgen tweeted about his detention and said he was told he would be taken to the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.
