Farmer protests spread to northern Greece

Farmers in the northern prefectures of Kozani, Kastoria, and Grevena, have staged protests and drove tractors in convoys towards towns to highlight problems in their sector that they say "threaten the sustainability of agricultural and livestock production."

Issues related to the implementation of the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) are at the center of the farmers' concerns.

Henry Dunant acquires Euromedica hospitals

A new group in health with over 2,500 staff and 1,380 beds has been created following the acquisition of Euromedica hospitals by the Henry Dunant Hospital Center.

As announced by Imithea, the company that owns the Henry Dunant Center, there is an agreement in principle with Farallon, which controls Euromedica, which will continue to operate its diagnostic centers.

Mother bear with 2 cubs shot dead near Konitsa

A mother bear and her two cubs have been shot dead near Konitsa in Greece's Epirus region. The incident was reported to Arcturos, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of the brown bear, on Sunday after the lifeless bodies were discovered alongside the road connecting the cities of Ioannina and Kozani.

Census reshuffles political pack in constituencies 

With the completion of the recent population census, 14 constituencies are changing seats. 

More specifically, as a result of a population increase in the respective regions, Eastern Attica gets two extra seats, while the North, West and South sectors of Athens and the first electoral district of Thessaloniki each gain one seat, by presidential decree. 

Two villages in Kozani quarantined over coronavirus deaths, infections

Two villages in western Macedonia were quarantined on Monday where authorities have recorded in the past few days three deaths from the new coronavirus and more than 10 infections, according to the General Secretariat of Civil Protection.

The villages, Damaskinia and Dragasia, are located between the towns of Kozani and Kastoria.

Strong Earthquake in Albania

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake was registered this morning in southern Albania, BTA reported.

The quake began at 7:25 a.m. and the epicentre was 49 kilometres north of the Greek settlement of Konitsa near Albania.

According to the Greek Institute of Geodynamics, the depth of the earthquake was 11.4 kilometres.

Man dies in Ptolemaida after hunting accident

A 67-year-old man died on Monday morning after being accidentally shot during a wild boar hunt in a forested area between the northern Greek towns of Kozani and Florina on Sunday.
According to reporters, a fellow hunter mistook him for their quarry.
He was rushed to a hospital in the town of Ptolemaida, where he underwent surgery but died.
