TV Slovenija boss clashes with Mladina over latest editorial
Ljubljana – Uroš Urbanija, the director of the TV arm of RTV Slovenija, has decided to cancel the subscription for Mladina over an editorial that criticises staffing at the public broadcaster. The editor-in-chief of Mladina retorted that by attacking the weekly, Urbanija was trying to cover up what was going on at TV Slovenija.
Anna Netrebko will perform at Ljubljana Festival, its boss says
Ljubljana – The concert of Russian soprano Anna Netrebko at the Ljubljana Festival remains scheduled for 26 September, the festival’s director and artistic director Darko Brlek said on Wednesday after the Ukrainian community in Slovenia called for its cancellation with last week’s petition signed by more than 700 people when the appeal was presented.

Slovenian student wins gold medal at Informatics Olympiad
Ljubljana – Slovenian secondary school student Benjamin Bajd has won a gold medal at the 34th International Olympiad in Informatics in Indonesia in competition of 349 students from 88 countries. This is the first gold medal for Slovenia since the country has started participating in the annual competitive programming event.
Dnevnik urges crack down on wild camping in Ljubljana
Ljubljana – The newspaper Dnevnik raises the issue of illegal camping by camper vans in Ljubljana in Tuesday’s commentary headlined When Tourist Sleeps Under Your Window. It says the authorities should crack down on the practice.
Regular, diesel outside motorways somewhat cheaper at midnight
Ljubljana – The prices of regular petrol and diesel sold outside the motorway network will go down again at midnight, with the former to be sold at EUR 1.49 a litre, down 4.4 cents, and the latter at EUR 1.641, or 3.5 cents cheaper than today, the Economy Ministry has announced on its website.
Almost 1,600 new Covid cases during extended weekend, nine deaths
Ljubljana – A total of 1,582 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Slovenia during the extended weekend and nine fatalities among Covid-19 patients. Friday included, 11 patients died and 3,156 new infections were confirmed, data released by the Health Ministry shows.
Short Film Festival kicks off in Ljubljana
Ljubljana – The 8th annual Short Film Festival (FeKK) is opening in Ljubljana on Monday to feature more than 160 shorts from 35 countries at various venues in the capital until Saturday, along with accompanying events.
