Slovenia eyeing top eight in home court EuroBasket Women
Slovenia and Israel will co-host the 2023 European Women Basketball Championship from 15 to 25 June, with the knock-out stage held in Stožice Arena in Ljubljana. The Slovenian team's goal at their fourth EuroBasket is to make it to the quarter-finals for the first time.
19th century Ljubljana pastry given a new twist
The Ljubljana štrukelj, a yeast-leavened laminated dough pastry filled with orange filling, apricot jam, vanilla and almonds, was given a modern twist 155 years after the recipe for the dish first came out in a book.
The oldest recipe for the Ljubljana variant of an Austro-Hungarian cake appeared in the first original Slovenian cook book Slovenska Kuharica in 1868.

According to the latest information, two people have died, and it is believed that the perpetrator is also dead.
The police have secured the scene and are gathering further information about the incident.
Push to create new flag carrier gains momentum
Slovenia has been beset by poor air connectivity since the demise of Adria Airways in 2019 and has struggled to attract foreign carriers to Ljubljana with subsidies. After months of rumours, it appears a push will now be made to create a new air carrier based on studies showing that not having a national carrier has had a significant impact on the economy.

Pensioner rally turns on journalists
The latest in a series of monthly pensioner rallies led by Pavel Rupar, a former MP for the opposition Democrats (SDS), saw some of the protesters insult and threaten journalists at the headquarters of the Slovenian public broadcaster.

Universities on strike for higher pay
Staff at all three public universities in Slovenia staged a strike on 30 May, demanding a fair pay system in higher education and respectful attitude from the government, and warning about what they see as harmful changes to the Higher Education Act.

Google planning quantum tech centre in Ljubljana
The US tech giant Google is planning to launch a quantum technologies centre in Ljubljana, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Minister Igor Papič told the STA on 30 May. Doctoral students could start this autumn or next year at the latest. Several hundred engineers are expected to graduate annually.

Barbio’s bets on wholesome for its business philosophy
