A big group of Central Americans has agreed to push toward Mexico City from a coastal state Monday, planning to exit a part of the country that has long been treacherous for migrants seeking to get to the United States.

AFP - Gunmen dressed as mariachi musicians opened fire in Mexico City's famed Plaza Garibaldi, killing five people and wounding eight others including a foreigner, law enforcement officials said on Saturday.

Gunmen with rifles and pistols killed three people on Sept.14  and injured at least seven in a tourist plaza in downtown Mexico City, police said, adding that they were chasing three men dressed as mariachi musicians who fled on motorbikes.

At least 85 people were injured after an Aeromexico flight crashed on takeoff during a heavy hail storm in northern Mexico, engulfing the plane in flames, officials said Tuesday.

The quake hit 5.6 miles (9km) north-west of Huajuapan de Leon, a city in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, with aftershocks felt in Mexico City.

It had a depth of 34 miles (55 kilometres), according to the US Geological Survey. 

There were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage following the quake, which struck at 8:31am local time (2:31pm UK time).

Mexico City: A newly opened shopping centre in Mexico City has partly collapsed after a support beam failed in a cantilevered office area on the building's top floors.

Restaurant worker Juan Ramon Hernandez said people were evacuated only about five minutes before the offices sheared off. Officials said no injuries were reported.
