Istanbul clinched the second position among Europe's most brilliantly illuminated Christmas cities in the month of December, according to research conducted by a U.K.-based company that focussed on the utilization of outdoor artificial lights during nighttime.

Italy’s landmark Vasari Corridor defaced by spray paint
The director of Florence's Uffizi Galleries called on Aug. 23 for stiff penalties against vandals who spray-painted graffiti on exterior columns of the Vasari Corridor connecting the famed museum to the Boboli Gardens.
Hours later, Italy's Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano said the presumed vandals have been identified by Carabinieri police. He did not identify the suspects.
Prague cancels concert by Russian soprano
Prague has cancelled an October concert by Russian soprano Anna Netrebko over her country's invasion of Ukraine, organizers said on Aug. 17.
Netrebko, whose past support for Russian President Vladimir Putin has led to cancellations of several concerts worldwide, was due to perform at Prague's Municipal House on Oct. 16.
