Prekmurje company acquires Canadian kayak maker
Roto Slovenija, a family-run business, has acquired the Canadian kayak maker Delsyk Kayak, which it says makes its range of kayaks and canoes the most extensive in the world.
Roto Slovenija is part of the Murska Sobota-based international group specialising in plastic products, which advertises itself as a leading European rotomoulding manufacturer.

Slovenian author Marwan receives Austrian literary prize
Klagenfurt – Ana Marwan, a Slovenian author who lives and works in Austria, is the recipient of this year’s Ingeborg Bachmann Prize, a prestigious prize for works in German conferred by the city of Klagenfurt, Austrian broadcaster ORF reported.
Mayor Jevšek’s bid for cohesion minister deemed OK
Ljubljana – Slovenia will have to use all EU funds available, grants and loans, to achieve balanced regional development, said Mayor Aleksander Jevšek before his candidacy for minister without portfolio for development and European cohesion policy was endorsed by two parliamentary working bodies on Saturday.

Slovenj Gradec mayor voted best in all 12 urban municipalities
Ljubljana – The latest public opinion poll measuring how happy locals are with the work of their mayors in Slovenia’s 12 urban municipalities sees Slovenj Gradec Mayor Tilen Klugler receiving the highest mark, followed by Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković and Murska Sobota Mayor Aleksander Jevšek.
Best youth and children’s book prize goes to Sebastijan Pregelj
Maribor – Sebastijan Pregelj is the winner of this year’s Večernica prize for the best youth and children’s book written in the past year. He won the award given out by the Maribor-based newspaper Večer for his book Vrnitev (Return), Večer reported online.
Pregelj will accept the award worth EUR 3,000 at a literary festival in the city of Murska Sobota on 19 September.
Hybrid carriages presented as part of cross-border project
Murska Sobota – A ride with an innovative horse-drawn electric carriage developed as part of a Slovenian-Austrian EU-sponsored project was demonstrated on Tuesday at the Rakičan Mansion near the city of Murska Sobota. The project aims at developing carriage routes in a bid to promote sustainable cross-border tourism.
