Bosnian Train Massacre Defendant Dies in Serbia

Ljubisa Vasiljevic, a wartime Serb paramilitary fighter who was one of five defendants in the Strpci trial at Belgrade Higher Court, has died.

Belgrade Higher Court told BIRN that Vasiljevic died on July 6 and that "due to that fact, the court adopted a decision to suspend the proceedings [against him] on August 16, 2021".

BELGRADE -- The Serbian War Crimes Prosecution on Tuesday announced that it had indicted five former members of the Bosnian Serb army (VRS) for war crimes.

The indictment concerns the Strpci case, when 20 passengers, mostly Bosniaks (Muslims) were taken from a Belgrade-Bar train 22 years ago, and later killed.
