Intense Earthquake Swarm Near Ohrid, Macedonia

An intense earthquake swarm is in progress near the city of Ohrid, Macedonia since June 18, 2017. Major earthquakes occurred in this region during historical times and the seismic hazard is among the highest of the Balkan Peninsula, reported the Watchers. The last prominent earthquake in this region occurred on February 18, 1911.

Bulgaria Places First at Balkan Mathematical Olympiad

Bulgarian students won four gold medals and two silver ones at the 34th Balkan Mathematical Olympiad, which has taken place in Ohrid, Macedonia, BNR reported.

In the team rankings, Bulgaria won the first place with 226 points from a maximum of 240 possible.

The Bulgarian tem was followed by the team of Serbia (208 points) and Romania (182 points).

Macedonia Launches Ohrid Film Academy, Classes Start in November

A newly-opened film institute in Macedonia's city of Ohrid will start teaching master classes in the academic year 2015/2016 starting in November, independent.mk has reported.

The Institute of Film-Film Academy Ohrid will offer three-year master programmes in English in two departments: screenplay writing and dramaturgy, and creative production.

Ministers Sign Memo on Balkan Refugee Flow

A memorandum of cooperation on refugees and migrants was signed on Friday in Ohrid, Macedonia by ministers from Macedonia, Austria, Serbia and Hungary.

Interior Minister Mitko Cavkov represented Macedonia, Johanna Mikl-Leitner siged for Austria, Nebojsha Stefanovic for Serbia and Deputy Interior Minister Krisztina Berta for Hungary.
